FRESH FINDS // ZAK LAYDEN & THE THIEVES

Today we look into one of our latest Fresh Finds, Zak Layden & The Thieves. Looking for playlist inspiration? Bored with all your favourites and looking for new ones? Wanting to discover the freshest talent on the scene? We’ve got you covered.

Here at HotVox, we’re giving you the lowdown on the best artists you need to be listening to. It took me two seconds (literally just two) to be hooked on this band. The first moments of their debut single, ‘Devil Hands’ hit you with a classic rock and roll guitar riff and you feel instantly transported to a grungy americana-feel bar with Chevys and Mustangs parked out front and the desert sands stuck to the bottom of your shoes. The song is truly electric. There’s something of the AC/DC and Guns&Roses about this lot – you’d have thought these guys had been writing and releasing for years with such an instantly iconic and recognisable style.

It’s actually quite a shame they don’t have more songs out because playing ‘Devil Hands’ 22 times in a row does make me look like a crazy person in the eyes of the person reading over my phone on the tube. I couldn’t help myself it’s just too powerful a tune! If you like this one, you’re going to want to see them live – trust me! You only have to take a peek at their instagram – @zl_andthethieves – to pick up on their super cool rock n roll vibes. I’m actually quite jealous looking at some of the gig photos, if a band and crowd look that energetic and alive in a photo, they have to have been ten times that in person!

They had a gig @ The Old Blue Last a couple months back and it was not one to be missed, as they say in their captions: “make sure you get your tickets now and don’t miss out on another crazy night of rock n roll!!!” But I don’t need to feel too bad, this band are regular performers (thank the lord!) and I’m sure it won’t be too long before I can see these guys live – I’m sure I’ll see you there too if you’re any type of sensible!
