When I was little, I associated guitars and music with the adult world. I just assumed that’s what grown ups did, and was anxious to get started as soon as I could. Elvis’ Sun Sessions had me hooked immediately but things really started moving when I first heard The Stones’ Exile on Main Street. I loved everything about it, from “Rocks Off” with its swagger to “Hip Shake” and its serpentine bluesiness; from “Sweet Virginia” and its boot kicking country to “Shine A Light” and its bloodshot-eyed gospel piano. The blueprint for all the best music had been established for me, a melting pot of Americana, Country Blues, Folk, Rockabilly… and a healthy dose of Singer Songwriter melancholy too!
