Today’s One To Watch is ‘Summer Boy’ by Jimmy Valentine

Jimmy Valentine is a new solo project from London based singer-songwriter Jamie Ley. After experimenting at home by tracking old show tunes with layers of synths and electronic drums, his new stage persona came to life: a fresh musical tribute to Hollywood’s golden age.

His baritone vocals resemble 1950s singers and entertainers such as Matt Dennis and The Rat Pack, reimagined with a modernised sound that can be found in the likes of Beach House or Perfume Genius. Performed live on an acoustic piano, his songs are his take on the performances of the great balladeers from back in the day, just a much more experimental version, combined with the sub-cultures and identity expressions of today.
