IVY MAM

We sat down with IVY MAM to find out what makes them tick…

In this feature, we’ll speak to some of HOT VOX’s favourite new artists on the gigging scene and find out what shaped them into the artist they are today

Today we’re featuring IVY MAM

IVY MAM is Mora June, Anyese and Minnie — a girl band based in London. Each from different parts of the world (Australia, Italy, and Thailand) they combine their diverse cultural backgrounds to create a unique sound. The result is a captivating mix, often likened to artists like TV Girl, Suki Waterhouse, and Men I Trust. Their music blends indie rock with a vibe that’s both modern and nostalgic.

The Sound OF -

IVY MAM

1. Who are you? Where are you from, how did you meet, and how long have you been playing together?

We’re a three-piece indie-rock/retro-pop girl band from London. We met at university last year and started playing together in January. We’re a close-knit, supportive group, each with our own unique vibes.

2. Who came up with the band name, and does it have any story or meaning behind it?

Anyese came up with the name while doodling in class. We liked the word “ivy,” and she combined our names into “MAM” (Mora June, Anyese, Minnie), and it just felt right!

3.  If you had to describe the band using just five words, what would they be?

Chill, authentic, passionate, eclectic, girlhood.

4. Who are your biggest musical influences?

We’re influenced by artists like Suki Waterhouse, TV Girl, and Clairo. But, for the most part, we each have majorly different taste: Mora June is more inspired by Jeff Buckley, Minnie loves Beabadoobee, and Anyese is all about Khruangbin.

5. What’s the band’s biggest claim to fame so far?

We’re braaaand new, but we’re releasing our first single in April, which is a huge milestone for us!

6. What’s your songwriting process like?

Mora June is the main songwriter of the band, but it’s a very democratic environment and we all like to bring our ideas in for arranging! We mostly start off with lyrics or even a feeling and each member will interpret that on their instrument.

7. If you could go on tour with any artist right now, who would it be and why?

Clairo or HAIM would be so cool – they’re both acts we look up to and we draw a lot of inspiration from them!

8. If you could put your dream team band together consisting of any musicians from the past or present who would the band members be?

Drums: George Daniel (the 1975) Guitar: Jeff Buckley Bass: Laura Lee (Khruangbin) Vocals: Amy Taylor (Amyl and the Sniffers)

9. How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you perform before?

Our aim is to make our audience feel connected to us and each other during the show – creating a fun, authentic, safe space for everyone. Our show is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but by the end we hope that our show leaves you feeling understood, inspired and energetic!

10. Do any of you have any pre-gig or post gig rituals? If so, what and why?

Pre-gig we all have different rituals, like meditating, working out or listening to a hype-up playlist – but before a gig we check in with each other and make sure everyone’s pumped and ready! Post-gig is definitely winding down at the pub with mates – could never go straight home with that post-gig energy.

11. What would your ultimate rider be if you could have anything without being accused of being a diva?

Mora June: just some peppermint tea, a steam room and the spirit of Prince telling me I’m gonna do great Anyese: San Pellegrino sparkling water and a deep tissue massage Minnie: a beer and a vape

12. This question is for all band members. If we were to browse your music library what is the most embarrassing song we might find?

Or who is your guilty pleasure artist? Mora June: Anything by the Lonely Island – it’s pretty awkward when “I Just Had Sex” comes on shuffle at a party… Anyese: I know you want me – Pitbull Minnie: stfu – Pink Guy

13. Tell us one thing your fans would be really shocked or surprised to hear or learn about the band

There’s a six year age gap in the band and none of us share the same first language!!

14. If people want to check you out online where is the best place to go?

If you want to hear about our shows and keep up to date, our Instagram is @ivy.mam ! On the other hand, if you wanna see more general, ridiculous, unscripted messing around, check out our TikTok @ivy.mam !

15. Finally, What does the future hold for the band?

You’ve caught us at the beginning of our journey as a band, so, hopefully, the future holds a lot… We do have big dreams, and we’re in it for the long run, so we’d love to tour around and create a community to share our music with!
