As an integral part of any song, lyrics act a way for artists to divulge their thoughts with listeners, but with so many songs out there, how can you be sure to hear all of these messages?
To grasp these hidden meanings, we have asked Archways to showcase some of their favourite, original lyrics and are pleased to feature them as part of our Waxing Lyrical series.
Today’s Waxing Lyrical With ARCHWAYS dives into the lyrics of their song ‘MAD-ADAM’. The song will be out on February 3rd and we managed to get an exclusive listen! We are sure you will love the song as much as we do!
When asked about the meaning of the track, the lead act James said ‘With most of the lyrics stating “that song was about you”, I can’t really go into too much detail of the song without giving the idea of the song away. And before you ask, no this song isn’t about you.’ A very interesting fact is that this song originates from a dream that James had: ‘the dream was set in a dusky haze, a creamy yellow sky, with One Direction and myself dancing around singing the same line over and over “that song was
about you”. It sounds so far fetched and pretentious but that is what happened and I woke up, went straight to the piano, and somehow navigated the distant sounds and lyrics into a song good enough for BBC Weekly Vibe.’
‘The meaning of this song comes from a deeply rooted, paradoxical message and experience of life. What you want and seek from life, are found in the places you least want to look. And to understand or contain your own capacity of control and learning of how to move forthrightly in the world, you first have to walk through the gates of the hell.’
Want to hear it live? Archways are performing live at O2 Academy Islington on February 11th!
(Verse)
My super 8 starts to roll,
And my window becomes a view,
Oh lights, camera, action, roll
Oh my life is starring you.
But no one will ever know,
Every rumour will be untrue,
No one will ever know your name,
How you’re the muse to my tunes.
(Chorus)
And I’ll capture it through the fields,
Even keep the deleted scenes,
But no one will ever know,
And no one will ever see,
And I’ll keep it down from the world,
It will hurt with every morning dew,
But no one will ever know,
That song was about you.
(2nd verse)
Was Eve sent into my life?
To learn from chaos as it grows?
But now I’m Mad Adam,
I’m the villain of my own show.
(Chorus)
And I’ll capture it through the fields,
Even keep the deleted scenes,
But no one will ever know,
And no one will ever see,
And I’ll keep down it from the world,
It will hurt with every morning dew,
But no one will ever know,
That song was about you.
(Ending crescendo)
And I’ll keep it down from the world,
It will hurt with every morning dew,
But no one will ever know,
That song was about you.
That song was about you,
That song was about you,
That song was about you,
That song was about you,
That song was about you,
That song was about you,
Oh do I still miss you?
Do I still love you?
