Hollywood Eyes

As an integral part of any song, lyrics act a way for artists to divulge their thoughts with listeners, but with so many songs out there, how can you be sure to hear all of these messages?

To grasp these hidden meanings, we have asked Hollywood Eyes to showcase some of their favourite, original lyrics and are pleased to feature them as part of our Waxing Lyrical series.

Today’s Waxing Lyrical With Hollywood Eyes dives into the lyrics of their song ‘Y R U?’.

This song combines the band’s powerful indie-pop sound with these heartbreaking lyrics that describe the turmoil of losing someone and not understanding why. The edgy vocal sound and captivating guitar riffs gives the song a unique sound that we are loving. Catch them live alongside the brilliant My Everest, About Bunny, and Colder Suns on 4th March at the Old Blue Last as a part of our Compass Tour!

Hollywood Eyes are a five-piece indie-pop band made up of Ryan Pridding (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Anthony Edes (Bass), Chris Mee (Drums), Connor Ledsom (Lead Guitar) and George Magraw (Keyboard). Since releasing their debut single ‘Dollhouse’ in 2018, they have crafted a unique, indie-pop sound focusing on catchy guitar hooks, prominent basslines and dreamy vocals.

Taking influence from 80s inspired and modern contemporary artists, they have established their own identity in an extremely competitive industry. They have since released a further five singles which caught the attention of BBC Introducing with All I Need, Bound To (You) and Torn; described as “perfectly homing in on the angst and troubles of young adolescence and relationships”.

Their single ‘Bound To (You)’ along with its music video has propelled the band to new heights and established them as one of the most exciting and anticipated bands in Cheshire. The band have been described as a “full package to pick up – these guys not only deserve a chance, but their quality demands a chance. These are a band to see and hear.”

The band’s successes include ‘Bound To (You)’ featuring on Spotify’s Alt. Pop. playlist, alongside indie music frontrunners Bastille and Sea Girls.

Y R U?

Hollywood Eyes

I’ll say this once yeah, if I’m aloud?
Open up the door and watch them all walk out
But I’d like to think, you’d try just a little bit darling

Why are you like this?
I don’t really know but I like it, oh I do
And well your eyes are more blue,
Since the last time I saw you
And since the last time I saw you

I can’t seem to get you off my mind
Since the last time I saw you
The feelings we shared
There’s nothing really there
There’s nothing really there

Shame shame, I know your name
We used to say it but don’t say it now, yeah
Blame blame, how we’re all the same
I’ve hear it all yeah,
Pretending that you’re middle class
I wanna laugh
Split the bottom of my vans
on the glass that you smashed, yeah
I find it easy digging up the past

Why are you like this?
I don’t really know but I like it, oh I do
And well your eyes are more blue,
Since the last time I saw you
And since the last time I saw you

I can’t seem to get you off my mind
Since the last time I saw you
The feelings we shared
There’s nothing really there
There’s nothing really there

All the feelings we shared
They’re not really there
All the feelings we shared
There’s nothing really there
There’s nothing really there

Why are you like this?
I don’t really know but I like it, oh I do
And well your eyes are more blue,
Since the last time I saw you
And since the last time I saw you

There’s nothing really there
