The Polygons

As an integral part of any song, lyrics act a way for artists to divulge their thoughts with listeners, but with so many songs out there, how can you be sure to hear all of these messages?

To grasp these hidden meanings, we have asked The Polygons to showcase some of their favourite, original lyrics and are pleased to feature them as part of our Waxing Lyrical series.

Today’s Waxing Lyrical With The Polygons dives into the lyrics of their song ‘Grow Old’.

The Polygons are a Kent based Indie/Pop Rock band consisting of four best mates that met in a music class. They have been throwing shapes and playing music together since 2016. Their gigs are packed full of energy, including covers by Kings of Leon, Sam Fender and Oasis; as well as all their original songs. Upon their first gig at The Forum Tunbridge wells, they were invited back to support False Advertising and the legendary Toploader! As well as that they have headlined two of their own shows, the second of which they sold out completely! Their songs have featured on BBC Introducing Kent, being described as ‘anthemic indie rock’ and a ‘band out for our own hearts’ by Abbie McCarthy!

The song is written about being stuck indoors during lockdown and playing video games as a means to socialise until the early hours of the morning, making too much noise and your parents coming to ‘knock, knock, knock’ on your door to tell you to keep it down. It also reminisces on old memories of a trouble and stress free time, hanging out with your friend ‘laying back and staring at the stars’ whilst coming back to the realisation of growing up and taking on more responsibilities.

Please see the lyrics below:

Gets up, so fast, like a bullet out a gun

The blocks have just opened and your time has just begun

Don’t waste your time

It doesn’t last that long we know it all too well

And those late nights staring at our screens

Howling hysterically as the mischief that we’d bring

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Without no rhyme or clause

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

Grow Old

The Polygons

Laying back and staring at the stars

Dreaming ‘bout fast cars and future lifestyles

Asking if she likes me

Asking if she’s with that guy

But it was you and I against the world

It was you and I against the world

And those late nights staring at our screens

Howling hysterically as the mischief that we’d bring

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Without no rhyme or clause

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Without no rhyme or clause

And I don’t want to Grow Old

And I don’t want to Grow Old

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Knock, knock, knocking at my door

Knock, knock, knocking at my door
